Water Treatment Chemicals for Steel Industry – Pickling Line Wastewater Solutions

Steel Industry Wastewater Treatment Chemicals

Steel manufacturing generates diverse wastewater streams requiring specialized chemical treatment. Hydrochemix supplies PAC and PAM for steel mill wastewater treatment across all production stages.

Steel Mill Wastewater Streams

  • Pickling Line Rinse Water: Low pH (1-3), high iron (Fe2+/Fe3+), heavy metals (Cr, Ni, Zn)
  • Cold Rolling Mill Effluent: Oil-water emulsions, high COD from rolling oils
  • Coke Plant Wastewater: High phenols, cyanides, PAHs, ammonia
  • Blast Furnace Gas Scrubbing: High TSS, cyanides, heavy metals
  • Continuous Casting: Scale particles, oil, moderate TSS

Treatment Solutions

Acid Waste Neutralization and Precipitation

PAC 30% effectively precipitates heavy metals as hydroxides at pH 8-10. Our high-basicity PAC provides better metal removal compared to lime alone, reduces sludge volume by 25-40%, and eliminates the need for separate coagulant and alkali dosing.

Emulsion Breaking for Cold Rolling Mill Effluent

Cationic PAM with high charge density (40-60%) breaks stable oil-water emulsions from rolling mill operations. Combined with PAC pre-treatment, achieves oil removal below 10 mg/L for discharge or reuse.

Sludge Dewatering

Steel mill sludge contains high concentrations of metal hydroxides. Our cationic PAM formulations are optimized for filter press and belt press dewatering, achieving cake solids of 35-45%.

Heavy Metal Removal Efficiency

Metal Initial (mg/L) After PAC Treatment Removal
Iron (Fe) 500-2,000 <2 mg/L >99.5%
Zinc (Zn) 50-200 <1 mg/L >99%
Chromium (Cr) 20-100 <0.5 mg/L >99%
Nickel (Ni) 10-50 <0.5 mg/L >98%
